Can anyone make sense of this mess?

Sorry for the length, I feel the details are important.

Car has run and started fine for the 5 years I had it. I get an ALDL cable and all the goodies, with it connected I can read data, the car will fire right up, then die and not attempt to stay running. After this happens, the car will NOT run unless I unplug the battery for 20 min (I read this resets the computer). After I reset the computer, it starts and runs fine. Try and datalog again, same thing happens, fires RIGHT UP vrooooom, then dies quickly.

So I say screw datalogging. Car runs and starts fine for two weeks. So I feel like messing around, try and datalog, same thing, fires right up, and dies quickly, no spitting or studdering. Craig Moates thinks something is messed with my ECM as far as datalogging goes, so I say screw it, i'm not going to datalog.

So a month goes by, car starts and runs fine for that month like always.

I change my alternator today, fire up the car, runs fine. Four hours later I go to go out, I start the car, fires right up, then dies. SAME EXACT thing it does with the ALDL cable connected, except there is no aldl cable connected this time. I try and start it four times, same thing. Ten minutes later I go to start it, it fires RIGHT up and runs fine.

I don't know what to make of it. People told me datalogging will not cause my car to die, that it's something else. But in a two month period EVERYTIME I datalogged (Atleast 6 times), it wouldnt run and the computer needed to be reset. And when I didnt datalog, it would run fine. Now it did the same thing tonight with no ALDL cable connected. Computer is throwing no codes beside a code 12.

I have absolutely no idea where to start looking. I came home at 1am tonight, started the car 3 times, fired and ran perfect Fuel pump is priming and i'm getting correct fuel pressure before startup. This is the first time it did this with no aldl connected.

The only thing I find to be a little wierd, is when I start my car, it will fire up very well (1-2 cranks) and the rpms will shoot up to 1000 or so, then dip down very quickly to 600ish, and go back up to 1000 very quickly and stay there until it goes into closed loop.
