Grand National engine/tranny ???

A friend of mine has a totaled GN and he's considering selling the engine, tranny, and rearend out of it. I know the TTA had the same engine so I'm wondering how much of this will be compatible with a thirdgen, and how much fabrication it'll require if I decide to do this. Also, what's a good price for the setup? I believe the GN was running low 12s before it was wrecked.

Im not sure but I believe it can be done. I the difference between the TTA and GN motor is the accessory setupa nd location much like the difference between an L98 vette/F-Body.

Search the archives, and I'm sure you'll find some info on it.

you will need custom headers and exhaust made for it, GN manifolds won't fit and TTA ones are nonexistant. you will also need different engine mounts, and maybe a tranny mount but i'm not sure. i know the GNs had a vaccum pump type thing to run the vaccum booster for the brakes, you will need one of those too. it won't be an easy swap by any means but it would be cool.

As long as you don't need AC you should be ok.

The GN engine and TTA engine is NOT the same. Different heads pistons and the crank is crossdrilled in the TTA motor. You can keep the GN heads but you'll have to ditch the AC.

Go to one of these site for more info

www.turbobuick.com www.turbobuicks.com or www.gnttype.org

They'll help ya out..i'm planning on doing this swap as well...the potential of these motors are unbelievable

Also a guy by the name of TTA850 knows a thing or two...personal friend of mine...he swapped one into his 89 GTA go for 9's he also has 2 TTA's(that bastard )

also with the 200-4r tranny u will need a new crossmember and a different driveshaft(i think) and a different torque arm as well

i do have some fairly decent pictures of the turbo trans am set up. you may be able to get some of the stuff needed to swap it from gm yet. as far as price, anything under 1200 would be worth it for the engine and trans. that rear end would be valuable if he sold it too. not many 8.5 10 bolts for g bodies out there.
