I know its a baby Ls1 and the LS1, LS6, and 6.0 head will fit on em. Just wondering what kinda power can be had outta em? I got a core today outta a tahoe, and im thinking baout building it up and throwing it in my silverado. I think a 450hp Z71 truck would kick *** for a toe vehicle :-p. The current 305hp isnt enough.

This winter I'm tackling my first LS-series motor. It's going to be a 5.3 out of a truck. We're ripping the FI stuff off of it and using one fo the new Edelbrock LS-1 carburetor intakes with a good old Holley 4bbl + the stand-alone ignition box they offer to run the stock coil packs. You can pick up complete running 5.3s for about $700 (minus computer and wiring which I won't need anyway with the carb)!

I beleive the truck 5.3 and 6.0 engines are cast iron blocks, as opposed to the 5.7 in the f-body/vette which is all aluminum.

And guss what it's going into? An 80s vintage RX-7!

FYI,

2003+ the blocks were changed to aluminum on the 6.0L

Not sure about the 5.3L though.

I would like to see an all aluminum 6.0 other than the LS2 that is in the new vettes. To my knowledge all 6.0 truck blocks are cast. The change in 2003 was to aluminum heads from cast iorn heads. The 5.3 has always been a cast engine, the heads aluminum. The SSR is the only place you will find an aluminum 5.3. The 4.8 is cast as well with aluminum heads. Hope this helps.

All truck LSX motors except for the SSR 5.3 are cast iron. I think the aluminum 5.3 was only a one year deal for the 2004 SSR, pig. Its not made anymore. The 6.0l all aluminum LS2 no has the duty for that job.

The iron block motor are nice because they are much cheaper to buy and are much stronger for +600hp power adder applications. But for my money it all about the lightweight all aluminum jobs.
