Just removed a/c blower; ran into problem

I just pulled out my old a/c(& heater) blower motor. Where the fan(cage) slips onto the motor shaft, there is supposed to be a nut that needs to be removed. Well, on the old blower there isn't a nut or threads. Just the tip of the shaft(stud). It's a little rusty and I just sprayed a little WD40 on it. I tried prying on the bottom of the cage with a flat screwdriver and it wouldn't budge. I didn't apply too much pressure because I didn't want to crack the plastic cage. I also tapped lightly on the shaft tip with a hammer, and still nothing.

HELP!! Anybody ever run into this problem? How did you remove the cage? I'll take suggestions as well. Thanks in advance.

Just a quick update. I sprayed more WD40 and some other rust remover on the shaft. I then started to hammer(about medium force) on the tip of the shaft, while holding the fan(cage) with the other hand. The cage finally came off.

The cage didn't fit on the new blower motor, so I went back to the parts store and got a different cage. I finally got everything together and put in the new blower and cage. Well, the a/c still doesn't work! I guess the problem lies elsewhere.

I need some help. I already replaced the a/c blower motor & cage assembly, and the blower relay(a/c compressor control relay). I looked at the resistors and they look fine(I really don't know what bad ones are supposed to look like). I tried pulling out the HVAC control head/panel and it didn't want to come out too far. I'll go back and check it again.

As of right now, when I turn on the a/c, heater, etc. no air comes out of the vents. The compressor clutch engages and disengages; the radiator electric fan will kick on, but that's about it.

Any suggestions? I've already spent quite a bit on parts and am getting frustrated.

Coach,

Did you diagnose the fan relay as I described in your earlier post? There is a good chance that it may have failed.

Incidentally, the fan motor needs the ground wire securely mounted to the frame to operate.

Vader, I don't own a multitester, so I couldn't test the parts. I asked in my original post about what would I look for in a multitester(for automotive use). There's a local Harbor Freight Company that sells some affordable ones. The brand name is CEN-TECH. I don't plan on using it too often, so I don't want to spend too much; but I don't want junk either. I could get one from Radio Shack, Sears, or a parts store. What do you recommend? Would I be able to use a test light to check the parts or connectors?

As for the a/c problem, I changed the blower motor and cage(fan), as well as a new relay(the parts store called it an a/c compressor control relay); I looked at the resistors and it looks O.K.(how can you tell if those are bad?). I also pulled out the HVAC control panel, and looked around for bad wires. Everything looked so-so. Where the connectors hook up to the blower speed and selector(max, norm,bi,vent, heat, defr) there seemed to be a little rust on the metal prongs that go into the connectors. I don't know if that is the problem. As for the ground wire going to the blower, it is part of the single-weatherpack connector that goes to it. There are two wires in that connector. The manual shows a separate ground wire, but I guess that is for an older model.

When I turn on the a/c, the compressor clutch engages and disengages; and the radiator electric fan comes on, but that's about it. I already spent most of what I had saved up on buying parts. Do you think I got a bad blower from the store? A friend said I should try hooking up a hot wire to it, but I don't want to screw something up and not be able to get a refund.

Sorry if I repeated some info from my other posts.

Oh by the way, in my original post, RB83L69 said it could be the power supply connector to the control head. He said that it is a brown wire that goes to the "mode" switch. He also said something about the connection being a pile of ashes or something to that effect. Well, when I had the control panel out(as far as I could get the panel out) I saw the brown wire. About half way down it there is a grey connector(the brown wire goes into and comes out of it). I can't see where it originates from, so I can't tell if that is the problem.
