I think I figured out why my bird has no low end. what do you think?

82 Firebird LG4 carb "no computer crap, yes the distributor and carb were changed to non CC"
Problem: No low end power or top end power.
The midrage is fine. I put in a comp 270H when I bought the car "had a dead cam". Right before I parked it a week ago for the winter, I tryed to time it using manifold vaccume, peak the vac out then drop it 2 pounds. The vac guage would not peak out. I could hit the vac advance on the manifold and it was still gaining. This isnt right.
It occured to me just now that the only reason this could be happening is the timing chain must have slipped or I put it on a few teeth off.
What do you think? Does this sound like what could be wrong? Is it worth the effort to pull the car out of storage and check it out?
I was planing on building a real engine up for it this winter but I would like to see how well the bird can run if my asumptions are correct and I can fix the possible problem.
Thanks!

85 Camaro, 355/400 "drag car" in moth ***** 13.1@ 101mph on its last season run.
Plans: Possibly add N20 for next season.
82 Firebird, 305/350 currently moth balled.
Current plans: Rebuild 305 with flat tops instead of the dished "cups" for pistons or slightly built 327 with the 58cc heads from the LG4, Upgrade the 2:73 to 3:73 or 3:42 and replace the turbo 350 with 700r4.

SSC,

You may be on to the problem. Did you degree the cam when you installed it? If so, you can use your indicator. piston stop, and wheel to check it again. If not, now might be the time to check it.

Not really, when I changed the cam I also changed the driverside head gasket so I could take a peak at the valves and cylinder walls, so I know no.1 piston was up . AZone sold me a funkey double roller that had degree marks on it that were kinda confusing, I think the guy that sold me the chain said it was for an olds but it would work. They dident show a double roller option for a 305 firebird. This chain had many markes on it so I probably did put it in wrong. I guess Ill get it out of the lot and tear the front off.
Thanks!

Edit: I fount the receipt for the chain. its for an 85 grand prix. So it should be fine in the firebird right?
