I've had this starter problem a while now. I replaced the starter a few months ago and the problem won't go away. After a while after first change the problem went away but it came back until it took sometimes a half hour before it would start.Problem being that it clicks. Last saturday at work it wouldn't start evenafter an hour and a half so It had to change it out for a new one in the parking lot. Now a week later its starting to happen gain, right now it only takes two or three trys where it clicks until it turns over. When i was stranded last saturday a guy said he had the same problem in his imapala and chevelle, that it was the spring in the selenoid not releasing. Am I just getting bad starters or is it a bigger problem? Sorry about the book I wrote.

I should add that I inspected the flywheel and found no bare metal and all the wires to and from the starter look fine.

How about your battery? Most of the "clicking" starters I see are due to not enough amperage to hold the pinion in place against the flywheel. Also check the battery connections well. These side post batterys leak alot and damage the cables. If there is any corrosion or its loose, that can cause it. Have the battery load tested. I had to put a battery in the wife's Bonneville because it would pause, then crank. The "eye" was green (worthless test anyway) and it load tested fine, but it was the battery anyway. Good luck.
