Insurance Question - Does my deductible apply to the other guy's damage??

Well, I rear ended some guy last night. The only real damage was to the paint on both of our cars. I have a 500 dollar deductible on my policy. I was wondering if this applies to the other guy's damage. In other words, let's say (theoretically) it costs 300 dollars to fix my car and 900 dollars to fix his, do I only have to pay 300, or would I have to pay my deductible of 500 because the total damage exceeded 500? Any help would be appreciated. I really don't want to have to wait to call the insurance company for a response. Thanks in advance.

The way this works is if your damage "your car" is over 500$ they will give you whatever it takes to fix your car -500$ The 500$ is what you pay out of pocket for your own car.
Your insurance pays the other guy and no money actually passes through your hands to the other guy.
The bad thing is if your not able to get your traffic ticked differed in court your insurance rate will increase.
Good luck!

Thanks for the response. The officer did not issue a ticket. Does this mean no increase in rates? So let's say hypothetically that it costs 900 bucks to fix his car, and I just decide not to fix mine. Does that mean I pay nothing out of this whole deal? Thanks a lot for answering this not-so-tech question. I just worry 24/7 about my Camaro. lol

You can choose not to fix your car, and pay nothing, yes. Your ins co will pay all of the other guy's damage, that is, all they think it should cost, when they send an appraiser out to look at the other car. What you are concerned about is how much, if any, your rates will go up. Even if there is no traffic ticket, I think the accident by itself will allow them to raise youir rates. Diff ins co's have different policies.
