84 Camaro engine surging
Hi, I just bought an 84 Berlinetta from the origanal owner. It is in very good shape. It has the full option package with the 305 cid engine. I recently noticed that after the car has been running for a while it starts to buck as I am accelerating. It only does it between 90 and 110 km/h and only if I am trying to accelerate hard, like to pass someone. If i go genlty I have no problems. No problems when the car is cold either. I have the Automatic transmission with o/d. Everything in the car is stock and maitenance is up to date. Could the problem be the EGR valve or am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks for the help
Welcome Aboard!
(Canucks especially welcome.)
Your description could indicate a lean condition. That could be aggrivated by an EGR valve that is not sealing, or carburetor tuning. If the engine idles well and performs normally at lower RPMs, the EGR valve is probably not an issue. Just to be certain, disconnect the EGR pilot vacuum hose and plug it. Another test drive should reveal whether or not the EGR is at fault.

How about a fuel pump
My car up and died the other day. Seems there was no more fuel going to the carb. It is in getting a new fuel pump now, plus a few other things it need to pass Alberta's safety inspection. Hopefully I will have it back this week. $1400 for this fix. Only another 5 grand to go until its done for now.
