dieseling problem on a 86 TA

My buddy has a 86 TA with a 305 TBI. Everytime he shuts it off, with the trans in park, and the engine hot, it diesels on anywhere from 3 seconds to 3 minutes at about 100rpm.
If he shuts the engine off with it in drive, the it shuts right down normally.

any ideas whats going on here??? thanks a ton for the help.

Try either retarding the timing some or running a higher-octane fuel.

Carbon build up in the combustion chamber will help it along as well. Mist some water through the engine. Don't let it diesel very long, it's bad on the engine.

No such thing as a 86 TA with TBI.

What is the engine from? Is it really TBI, or is it actually a carb (much more likely)?

Must be a computer carb. Make sure the timing is correct and the idle speed is correct. That should fix it.

Hey RB....I'm unsure about the 86 TA's. My friend has an 86, and it has a TBI on top of it. He says it's never had an engine swap, and I know a TBI when I see one.
