car died while driving

my car died while cruising at 40 mph. i saw the tach just drop off to 0. pulled over wont start. popped the hood dint see anything unuasual. 3 min later started up and drove home fine. could this be my 2 year old msd coil or my flame thrower ignition module,or something else.

if it just suddenly cut off without you noticing any spuddering etc then I'd guess that you have some electrical problems with your ignition system. Car not throwing any codes? doublecheck your wiring to your ignition box, and you might even consider having your ignition control module (in the dist. under the cap) checked out. When my ICM died, I was stuck. No spark. Had to replace the ICM. Let us know if you find anything out.

a little more info. its was running hot for an 1 1/2 hours. in stop a go traffic. what is heating up a shutting down . could be coil or icm. could it be pu coil? what shuts off when hot? then has the ability to cool off in 3 min to restart and drive.
and at the light before it died it hesitated for a sec , when it was diein the rpms were bouncing all over at low rpms. is this the coil?

This happened to me and it was the ignition module...once it cooled off the car would start...the module eventually died all together on a highway in nj during rush hour on a road with no shoulder....fun fun

maybe this helps
