ok i just got a 75 350 engine out of a corvette and it needs new rings. i want to get some desent power but dont have the money and really just need to get it running. i've been reading that the heads on the 70's engines are junk would it be possible to use my 87 305 heads to raise the compression to get a little more power and to get a bigger cam. thanks
You mean, like this?

This has '416 heads, and you'll have to address the push rod guide issue with '87-later heads. Compression is up from the stock 8.2:1 to something like 9.7:1.
As long as you're going that far, you might want to consider a fresh bumpity stick and new timing drive. It can be done with the engine in the vehicle on a C3 with little trouble:
I did this whole project, including ported and studded '416s, cam, lifters, gaskets, fluids, supplies, and paint for about $340.

Transmission: 700R4
If you want to use the 305 heads, then you need to definately put the 1.94 intake valves in. Also do some bowl blending and a little clean up on the runners. But, I must worn you, the 305 heads aren't very strong either.
