Times update-LT1 intake install/Gen1 SBC

I did get my best time yet. I strolled across the line at 13.46@104.68 IN SECOND GEAR 7000RPM! Previous best was 13.89@102.

Waning-Lame excuses to follow.

We've be chasing a tranny problem, no overdrive so one of the things we chsnged to see if it would fix it was the governer. Did have time to swap back due to other more important things like no oil pressure when my distributer poped up. Hold down come loose, it was only in 3-4 threads. Got longer bolt-fixed.
Anyway, the replacement governer had a higher shift from 1-2 then the old, old was about 5200rpm, this new one did the 1-2 at 6000rpm. I thought that was cool at the time so I would have left it anyway. Little did I know it would effect 2-3 worse, the 2-3 shift doesn't occur till 7200rpm! Damn that sucked. I was mad, but hell, that's what racing's all about.

Those times sound very promising. No doubt 12s are right around the corner as soon as you get your tranny straightened out.

Do you think TPIS is gonna get worried if they see this?

Anyway, good job...can't wait to see your tech article on it.

Will someone please explain to me why TPIS is going to be mad at people doing LT1 intakes on gen 1 small blocks? Another guy had that same response over at camaroz28.com.

Because no one will buy their Miniram...$895 for just the intake ($$cha-ching$$). And you still need the fuel rails. Since an LT1 intake and Miniram are ALMOST similar, with some modifications and porting, you can duplicate what TPIS is selling for half of the cost of a MR. Hmm, Miniram performance at a fraction of the cost...you could probably see why TPIS might be annoyed at the thought of this. People are always selling used LT1 intakes and fuel rails so it wouldn't be hard to pick one up and do the work yourself. Ahh, the true spirit of hot rodding!

Unfortunatly for TPIS though, they really can't do squat. Did he steal there patent? No. All he did was modify an existing product. Is it illegal for a speed shop to buy a set of stock Aluminum L98 heads, port them, then sell them for double? HELL NO! Does that hurt the other manufactures who make aluminum heads buisness? A little, but hey, thats competition, and that is what makes America great. If TPIS is loosing buisness because of it, then its time they stop ripping people off and lower there costs, so the average "hot rodder" doesn't have to take out a loan to buy there product.

How much oil is your speedomotive engine burning/using?

You should be faster than me with those mods... Congrats on getting the intake on, I hope you get it flying when its tuned.

Lets see, $895 for a Mini Ram. I got an LT1 intake, complete TB to Fuel Injectors off Ebay for $167! Leaves lots of money for the other stuff, machine work, 1.6RR, Hot Cam install etc

I don't think TPIS makes an LT-1 manifold anymore. I don't think anybody does for that matter...

no they dont, and lingenfelter stopped making the superram to fit too

i think he just meant he doesn't have to buy a miniram for his car and can just buy an LT1 intake

There is just a little difference between the two, but a LT1 intake is still good to work with

Sorry for the ignorant question but here goes:

Are you guys saying that we can run a LT1 intake on our L98's or is it on crate motors?

Thanks and again I apologize for the ignorant question

The LT1 will fit a L98 or equilant crate motor(gen1). It is NOT a bolt on! It has to be made to fit. Some details are in the below link.
