...the saga continues...
I took the MSD box off the car and got it back to the stock set up...went to fire it up...and........VAROOM!!! she roared to life...after throwing my arms up in victory the car stumbled and died....
....so I thought timing problem...twisted the dizzy around....got a couple burbs outta the motor then just pulled #1 spark plug put a rubber glve in the hole bumped the starter and saw the glove blow out (I'm working solo)...droped the dizzy in on #1 and now there ain't nothing...she ain't even trying to start......the big thing is that I think I fixed the ignition system....the manual says when setting the dizzy put it between 1 and 8.....do I do that or should I go to 1...

try one thats how I did my 305, if you have a next door neighbor or gf. Have them crank it till it hits the tdc of the #1 cylinder. Do this by reading the timing marks on the balancer. Put in the dizzy, if this doesn't work you maybe 180* off. IE rotate the assembly 1 time

Keep in mind there are 2 TDC's in a combustion cycle. Compression and exhaust. Use the friend or get/create a starter interupt switch (handy if doing solo work) and put your finger or the butt of a screwdriver over the #1 hole. When you feel pressure behind it, look at the valves and the balacner. If both valves are fully closed when you hit TDC, you are on the compression stage, and #1 is firing. If the exhaust is open when the balancer reads TDC, #1 is on exhaust and #6 is firing.
