What is good choice for BB manifold to get low and midrange power and what carb? A 650 holley would be on the small side wouldn't it? Any opinion on the carb intake packages that summit has?

How big of a big block are we talking about here?
I have a gasket-matched Action+ on my 396. A 650 DP Holley feed it fine. Other details include 270 duration .510 lift cam, ported 260cc intake port small chamber heads, 10:1 compression, 1-3/4" headers. I have a 750 Proform body in it now, no significant difference over the 650.
If you're talking about a 454, then you probably want a 750.
