Do I Need New Pushrods If I use Different Heads?

I have a carbed late 70's early 80's 305 with junky smog heads.
I am going to put on a set of "601" heads that have larger valves and a mild porting job.
I will also be putting in a new cam and lifters when I switch heads.

Can I re-use my old stock rocker arms and pushrods?
How will I know if they are the right length?

Also, the head shop offers "pinning" of the rocker arm studs for and extra 70 bucks. It this worth it on a 305 daily driver? Even with my mods I don't think I will be getting much more than 280 to 300 hp out of it. What do you think?

You can reuse your old rocker arms and pushrods. Make sure the rocker arm and pivot ball stay together - after being run, they don't play well when mixed up later.

Of course, the ideal situation is to get new pushrods and rocker arms. Non-stamped rockers help eliminate flex.

Pinning the rocker studs is a good idea. They can pull out even with a stock cam. What cam do you plan on putting back in?

Thanks

I am not quite sure what cam to use. I want something with a lot of torque and low to mid range "real everyday streetable" power.

It will be a daily driver not a racer, but I still want it to be fun.

Any suggestions?

Rereading this, I think I'd better clarify something. You can use the pushrods from the older engine, but if you're talking about the pushrods from the '88 engine, you cannot.

Comp XE262 is a fairly popular grind for a decent improvement over stock but still mild.
