pop though the intake?
Ok finished the cam swap....fixed the ignition prob...now on to tuning....I initially set 12 deg timing...the car ran pretty well...after talking with pcms forless they said go 6 deg...so I did and now I notice if I hit the gas at lower rpms about half the time I'll get a pop through the intake....if I hit the gas more slowly the car pulls smoothly all the way to 6K with no poping...I went to 30 lb injectors on this swap as well and didn't touch the fuel pressure..and via "search" I guess being lean could be an issue too....gonna set 45psi on the fp today...and then there is the possibilty of incorrect valve lash....this is the method I used to set them....after going dot to dot #6 is fireing so via the maint manual to get #1 fireing I rotated the crank 360...both lifters all the way down on #1 and not moving..then set....
For any high performance cam use the 4 position method.
here it is:
Turn the crank shaft untill the #1 piston is at TDC on the top of the compression stroke ( fireing) both #1 lifters will be down.
adjust the Intake valves of cylinders 2 and 7
adjust the exhaust valves of cylinders 4 and 8
Rotate the crank 180 degrees (1/2 turn)
now adjust intake valves 1 and 8
adjust exhaust valves 3 and 6
Rotate the crank 180degrees again
adjust intake valves 3 and 4
adjust exhaust valves 5 and 7
rotate the crank 180degrees
adjust intake valves 5 and 6
adjust exhaust valves 1 and 2
....I went 1/2 turn after zero lash...no play/slight resistance when spining them.....if the valves are not set right the motor would pop at higher rpms all the time right? I'm thinking its more timing and fuel...I did get a custom program done....pretty sure this could be pcms for less first time burning a chip for this cam (XFI292) as they are fairly new....anyways any suggestions would be great....thanks!

...went out and tested the TPS.... .53V at idle and 4.6ish at WOT......also the car before the cam swap and now has been throwing a code 36...the ignition system is pretty new...new dizzy, esc, no more msd 6a, and a good msd coil.... I'm gonna go out and check the MAF....this could be part of my problem????....I checked for any vac leaks and didn't find any...thanks..

....ok I have two new fan relays..are these the same as the MAF power and burn off relays...also is there an ESC next to the burn off relay? I thought the ESC was under the dizzy cap??? Just trying to fix any possible ignition/MAF problem that might be affecting my cam swap/poping problems...thanks!
Alright Trevor, the ESC is on the firewall, the code 36 is a MAF burnoff code, that will not be your issue. I have had that code on my car since I have owned it. I replaced the relay, didt cure it, so I left it at that. I can send you the flow chart for that code if it really bothers you BUT like i said, that wont cause a drivability issue untill the MAF gets so dirty it stops working.
Like I said in the email, get a scan tool on it and check block learns, timing and o2 mV in PE. This should help you out a lot. You also may want to think about bumping the TPS up to .63 volts, I dont know if we talked about that on the phone last night at all. MAF cars seem to like it best there, and that will keep you from getting a code 33 whick WILL give you a drivability issue
Good luck bro, I will be down at the girl friends place tonight as its our anniversery, BUT I should have my phone on me for the drive down, so if you need any help give me a call.
Later man,
Erik

dude thanks!!....its def a timing issue...I got the fuel pressure to 45 psi then set 8 deg on the timing...MUCH better....it would still pop but not nearly as much...set 10deg.....againMUCH better....no poping but now I'm afraid of pinging...I will get a scan tool....

Your a tpi right, if your afraid of pinging run a higher grade fuel. I run a 15* base advance with no pinging on 93 octane. Then again my car is stock. Good luck with it.

I have a miniram....yeah I know about the knock sensor but doesn't the motor pink THEN the puter pulls timing? I try to listen for it but my exhaust kinda overcomes most noises...thanks!

The comment was directed at Mcdamit. His knock sensor could be pulling timing out before he'd ever hear it.
