Mice cutting vacuum lines

I have mice nibbling on the vacuum lines on my 1992 Z28. They cut the cruise control and windshield washer line. I've also got scratches by the fog lights. I did a search and didn't find anything. I drive my car on nice weekends and ocassionally to work. The car was in the carport when they cut the lines.
How do I get rid of them. TRAPS

Is that illegal? I would get some traps and place them around the car (like over 100 traps, in a circle so that not ONE mouse can get thorugh with out stepping on the car )

get some mothballs, or a box of bounce sheets, put em inside your engine bay. you'll never get a mouse problem again

Leave the antifreeze out.

I live in California and if some mice were chewing up my car I wouldn't give a damn. Leave the tub out because animals are attracted to the scent and then they start drinking it and you know the rest.

I think that would be the best solution.

Is this really going to work? They never did any damage to the car, but, they ate my buffing, and polidshing wheels, and took the D-Con I had left out, and carried the pellets into my dirty rag box, and piled them in there and made a nest there too. So far there is no more droppings on my work bench, but I will give the antifreeze a try. I never thought a mouse would drink it. This is in my garage too.

i know i like the taste of it so I am sure small rodents will.... plus I have a pet rat and he will try eating/drinking anything so a mouse would probably be the same.

Went out to put a pie tin of coolant on the bench, and floor. Noticed a few more droppings. Why are these mice coming in the garage in the summer I wonder? Im gonna get mothballs too.

Mice

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try the dryer sheets, traps, and maybe a little anti-freeze. I have never had this problem with other cars that were parked in the carport. I wonder why now.

Probably because it's too hot outside and they found a nice little section that was cooler, has a nice little hiding spot, and there's stuff to eat.

I would personally try antifreeze, alot of pets get killed because of that stuff, so I imagine mice would like it too, just don't leave it out too long so any of your pets or kids can get to it.

No, my two dogs never go in my garage, and its always locked. Checked the antifreeze today, and the little sumbutches drank almost a bottlecap full. Thanks to everyone for the advice. 92blackZ, hopefully I can nip them in the bud before they start eating my car up. Thank Gawd they did not get into your interior, or mine for that matter.

THey will drink the antifreeze then climb in your car and die. Whats wrong with plain ol mouse traps?

Bounce sheets work pretty well. If you put them near the entrance they use.

Antifreeze will kill anything else that happens to get a chance to drink it, cats, dogs, and other furry things. I'd rather just get the damn 99 cent traps plop some PB on there and have done with... Or grab a BB gun and have some target practice.

Yeah untill a bb bounches around and nails your car. mouse traps sound like the best solution to me. Anti freeze tastes sweet at first but then gets bitter after a few seconds ( i was under my car undoing the temp. sensor and had my mouth open oops.).

antifreeze will kill pretty much anything that drinks it, i have been told that plain old Coca-Cola will work too, but it won't hurt dogs or cats, i have been told that mice & rats can't burp is why it works on them. but it needs to be pretty fresh, once it looses its fizz it won't work. bourneash, maybe you could try it out on your rat & let us know,... J/K

if you want to use poison, D-Con is a joke, it attracts more mice than it kills, get something else.
real-kill rat & mouse killer all weather bars works good, there is another type that works really good if you can find it, its call "one bite" or "just one bite".

Rodents hate pepper and will not go near it. Buy some pepper spray at Big 5 and spray your firewall and top of motor. Rodents will not REPEAT WILL NOT return. I know this works. You can also take normal black table pepper and pepper your engine bay, although cayene (Red) pepper works better.

My dad uses the just one bite stuff or whatever it is called. We don't even open the stuff up. Just sit it on the self and the little bastards take care of the rest. Now if I just figure out how to get them to die somewhere besides behind the shop manuals.

There's come ingenious people on here. I never would have thought to use half of the stuff suggested here. At least I'll know what to do if I ever have this problem.
