Guys who have broken in Motors plenty of Times please read inside!!

I know the basics of breaking in a motor, but not all. Could u possibly describe what exactly do i have to do once the motor is put together, im running an Accel Cam, t-5 5speed modded 305 TPI which has been rebuild check sig. After i first start it up is it true i have to change the oil, Do i have to keep the motor at 2000 rpm for 30 minutes to break in the cam????? What exactly has to be done once the motor is about to be started to get an excellent break in???? Please state any information u have even if its a thousand pages long. thanx in advance

I didn't think you had to break in the cam for that long. When I did a cam swap in my 305 I believe my brother let it run for like 10 mins at above idle.

Yes, you should change the oil have a short period, when I swapped the cam I changed it after the break in before I started the car again. When I got my new motor I changed the oil about 200 miles after break in.

Check out the beck racing engines webpage for a very detailed break-in procedure. However, I don't think the 30-minutes at 2000-2500RPM applies for roller cams. Good luck.

i run mine above 1000 and below 2000 rpm for around 30 minutes, check for leaks, set timeing and anything else that needs done. then change oil and filter, i use straight 30 for first 1000 miles or so. the cam break in is to allow the lifters to rotate on the lobes, this doesn't apply to rollers. it's good to allow the engine to heat up and cool down several times, i don't like to drive a new engine for an extended period of time at first, 30 minutes at most for several heat/cool cycles.

Are we talking just a cam or a entire new engine?
If its just the cam I let it run on high idle for 15/ 20 minutes 1500 rpm. Then if nessasary I re adjust the lifters and change the filter add a quart and dump the oil in 200 miles.
If its an engine same 15/20 minuets then adjust lifters then drive 100 miles keeping it under 2500rpm then change the oil and filter. After 400 more miles under 3000 rpm I cange oil and filter again.
