Starters keep cracking at the cone, need help
I have a 85 Z28 with a 350 4 bolt main motor that is out of a truck. I'm having problems with the starters cracking at the cone, i am baffled. It has the stock bell housing and starter on this motor, and i just replaced the flywheel. Anybody got any ideas?

Does it make the horrible grinding noise when it tries to start, turn real slow, and get worse when you shim it? If so, I know the cure....
OBTW, did you get the motor (or at least the block) for what seemed like too good of a price, from somebody who had it in their car before? That would also be typical of The Problem.

Yeah, it makes grinding noises, ive had this problem before and i changed the flywheel and got a new starter and it stopped. And it was workin fine for about 4 months, untill i changed the lifters, i dont know if that has anything to do with it, but it happened when i was bumping the starter to reset the timing.
