It is the HEATER - A/C CONTROL LAMP. Some incorrectly call it an ashtray light. It is actually supposed to light up the A/C controls.

Sorry, but that is incorrect. The AC/Heater Control lamp is the bulb that actually lights up the AC/Heater controls from behind, hence the name. It is a 194 bulb. The bulb in question is the Console Illumination lamp, which is a 74 bulb. Since there is an Automatic Transmission (PRNDL) lamp, which is a 37 bulb, the only thing left on the console is the ashtray, which is where the "nickname" for the Console Illumination lamp comes from.

To call it the "ash tray" light may be technically incorrect, but so is calling it the AC/Heater Control lamp, per the GM shop manual.
