Every small block from 1969 and up used a long water pump except for the **DRUM ROLL** Corvette.
Not sure on what specific years got what on the Corvette though.
Oh, that's not including the reverse rotation pumps or the reverse flow pumps. Those are their own animal all together.

Reverse rotation pumps aren't their own animal, they're exactly the same, but with a different impeller.
Passenger car small blocks got the long pump in 1969, trucks got it later, in 72 or something like that.

Short water pumps were used on factory models through the 60's. The heads didn't have accessory bolt holes and neither did the water pump. Unless you're building a complete custom application, you're going to want to install a long water pump. The long pump will have the proper bosses and holes on the body to mount accessories such as alternator and power steering pump. What year the engine is doesn't mean anything. It depends on what accessories you're planning on bolting onto it. Any late model car will need a long water pump.
