Running a shorter belt question

I have emissions...would running a shorter belt and bypassing the smog pump pulley work? Or would something go wrong? Then I would just put on previous belt when emissions came around. Less drag and little increase in HP...would it work or no?

You can't bypass the smaog pump without removing it. There will be interferance with the pulley hub (front of smog pump) if you do not remove it. When you do remove it you actually will use a longer belt.
