cam choice in this combo what do you think?

ok, this is a 1989 firebird formula 350 (MAF)

holley stealthram, afr 195cc heads, 1.6 roller rockers, slp 1 3/4" headers, slp catback, 700r4 shift kit 2800 stall, 3:70 rear gear.

cam hyd. roller 113 lobe sep. , 242/248 dur. @.050 , .584/.579 lift with 1.6 rockers

this should max hp around 6500-7000 rpm

what do you guys think? run a differant cam?

BTW I will tune the prom my self I just wonder how well matched this really is. and if any one has run a similar setup what times did you run?

I think you're fine, AFR's have a good i/e ratio, so don't need a dual patter cam...along with 1-3/4 headers, you should be set for whatever RPM range your shooting for...HSR should be able to get you ni the RPM's without issue.

Make sure the compression of the engine is right for the cam, and keep the quench in the 040 range if running 10+ CR in order to get max timing advance to take advatange of it all.

IMHO your torque converter stall is to low for that cam. I would look into something around a 3600rpm stall point. Others will probably suggest something even higher.

One more thing if this is going to be any kind of a street machine I would look into something smaller. Also if you are going to spin the motor that high I would make sure you have good parts in the lower end and a good valve train.

I also agree about the comment on the torque converter. If it were me I would look into a solid roller cam if you're wanting to rev that high. I wish I had done that the first time around when I used the Stealthram.

Your not going to need a large cam with AFR heads to make tons of power.

I figured the afr rev kit would do the trick but, if you guys know of a better cam choice let me know

What are you trying to do with the engine and car?

I personally think that cam will require more RPM but... Guess you will find out. I like the cam. I wish I had gone w/ something like that or a 236/242 in my car w/ a miniram/HSR. Run it and see what happens. Its going to be fun to tune at idle, and my only concern would really be idle vacuum for breaking.

And you would need MUCH more converter for that cam. I wouldn't go smaller than 3800, but thats just me. I think that cam w/ a 4000 stall would be

hum? well I have the heads, intake, headers and fuel pump gears 350 ect. already and I was concidering this 89 formula 350 car to put the stuff in and since I really only need a cam to make everything work I want to see what I can really pull from that combo given the right cam.

I would love to make a high 11 second N/A formula 350

well I just built that combo w/both dyno 2000 programs and it is only good for a flat 12 and I had to use a 4000 stall like you said.

I was looking at the sallee chevrolet super afr zz4 crate eng (which uses a 350 and the afr 195 heads) it makes more hp and torque than that cam I listed.

they use a gm# 12370846 .509/.528 lift 222/230 deg. @ .050

I would think I could find a better cam that that though
