I just changed engines in my 90 RS like for like (3.1) and now I have a problem making it idle properly. Throttle response is crisp, but idle speed doesn't seem to change from cold engine to warm. Also the idle seems so low that to put it in grear to move you must raise the rpms with the acc pedal. Also, what should the proper ignition timing be for this engine? I know that it is advanced plenty. any ideas?
RS,
Base timimng should be 6° BTC with a manual trans and 10° BTC with an auto trans, IIRC.
As for the idle conditions, check the IAC and its air passages for cleanliness. Set the TPS voltage and check the throttle minimum air position. There are directions for these procedures in the archives, and a quick search should find them for you.
