WTF? Hoodlatch has a mind of its own

Why is it that my hoodlatch will decide to pop whenever it wants to? Ive checked the alignment, its good. It latches all the way, and I cant pull it up no matter how hard I try. Then I'll come back to my car, which is parked, 10 minutes later and it will be popped The cable doesnt look like its too tight, And sometimes the hood will stay latched for days. I have driven on the highway at high speeds, and it doesnt pop then. Can anyone help me out here?
thanks

mine does that too, so i have to kinda hit it to get it to pop up. otherwise it stays down. iv tried greasing it, and it works for about a day. just whenever it gets stuck, hit down on it not to hard so that it latches again, but until it pops up

Mine has no problem latching, or unlatching. It just will unlatch for no reason. Should I replace the whole latch assembly? I dont see anything wrong with it. Does anyone else have this problem?
thanks

The latches have 2 'clicks' like doors do. You may need to raise the latch up a little as it may be only 'clicking' once. Also the rubber stops on the corner of the radiator support compress with time and may need to be adjusted upward to keep more tension on the latch.

or it could be the rubber things are too HIGH, and might not be letting it go down far enough, i think thats different then what merf said.. also, u still might try cleaning it up a little and putting some with lithium greese on it.

If I am parked where I work on the car, it opens flawlessly and easily. If I am parked at the gas station and I want to check my oil......it's maddening.

If I want to check it anywhere else, 15% of the time it will open easily, the rest of the time, forget it.

I think that you are right about the rubber grommets though. I'll adjust them and see.

Thank for the help. The stupid thing didnt give me any problems since I posted this, but I will check everything out tonight. I never thought of the rubber stops. I think Im gonna just pull off the latch and hook and try to line them up again.
Thanks again
