I drive an 88 IROC-Z with the TBI 5.0 LO3 engine (dont laugh its my first car) and for some reason when I hit the gas my "service engine soon" light comes on. I love cars but unfortuneately am not very experienced with them. It comes on after my car has been running for about 10 minutes. I hit the gas coming off of a corner or to go up a hill and the light comes on. I noticed a considerable power loss and slow response by the transmission when it is on. Has anyone else had this problem or know what is wrong and how to fix it? Help me any way you can please.

I'd say check the code. It will tell you exactly what is wrong. Could be something with the TPS possibly, since it only happens when u hit the gas. Just a thought

I am experiencing the exact same thing. I've got an 87 IROC with the 305 TPI/ T-5 combo, and when I change gears my car boggsand then kind of clears up. I ran the codes and it came out a 33-- high voltage at the maf at idle. Or it said it could be the map sensor, but I can't find that on my motor (its not on the side of the tpi in the indention on the pass. side!). Wish I could find out what it is, cause this ones screwing me royaly.
