160 degree thermo.... question
Hey everyone, I just bought my Camaro about a month ago, and I got a 160 degree Thermostat yesterday- the guy at A&A told me I need a chip to use the new thermostat. Is this true or could i just put it in with the car stock? Thanks

If you're car is computer controlled I do believe you need some sort of chip for the system operate properly, you're car will still run. And depending where you're from I wouldn't recommend putting it in with winter coming, unless you leave where it doesn't get that cold. I just recently changed the 160* out for a 180* since I go to college in the mountains and it is already freezing here with 25mph winds constantly.

Don't do it without a chip. I did it that way, and had problems. First, I dumped tons of gas. My mileage sucked. Second, My emmissions were, through the roof. Third, (if I had a cat) my understanding would be that it would've been clogged by all the extra fuel NOT being burned. I had no heat in the winter either...some I guess, but not much!!! I never really even saw a performance gain. Needless to say, I switched back to a 180. No problems since.
