Erratic idle then dies Gives code 15 and a Fuel filter ?
1989 Firebird Formula 5.0L w/ AT
My other vehicles have all been '73 and older so I'm a bit novice with TBI etc. This car was purchased about a week ago and in the last two days has started to run odd. I checked for error codes with a paper clip and the only one I got was code 15. I'm not knowledgeable enough about these systems to know if that could cause the following symptoms: Starts and runs for about 10 minutes, during this period idle is between 600 and 700 rpm. After that the vehicle idle begins to jump into the 1-2k range, this happens for about two minutes. After that the idle suddenly drops to 0 and the vehicle dies. I can restart it only if I keep the gas pedal to the floor and then it dies again as soon as I let up on the gas pedal. If the car sits for 10-20 minutes it will start normally and then run again for about 10 minutes without problem. The vehicle only seems to die when I'm under 15 mph. Additionally, this all seemed to start when my gas tank got close to empty for the first time. I've since filled it but the problem persists. I changed the pcv valve and was going to change the fuel filter but couldn't find a 13/32nd socket to fit the bolt on the fuel filter retainer clip located near the rear crossmember. Any suggestions on other possible causes? Or any suggestions on where to find a 13/32nd socket? I tried to come up with things using the search function but had no luck. I apologize if this issue has already been covered and would appreciate any suggested search terms.
