removing carbon buildup

hey guys,

I have my heads off my engine right now, and I really would like to clean up the carbon from the combustion chamber and valves. I was wondering if anyone has any hints/tips as to how/what I would need to do this at home. I've got brake clean and some scotch brite pads. I DO NOT have access to a shop, or a wire wheel... so it's gotta be done by hand.

thanks!
