gas tank differences

gas tank differences

is there any difference in a carburetor gas tank and a tpi with intank pump, besides the sending unit?

I asked the same question on another board in Third gen. I'm going to need a new tank and SPI makes two one for FI and one for carbed. I called SPI and there is a "pan" inside the FI's so to not fry up the pump if gas gauge is on "E". I'm not sure if that helps you at all....

well i noticed looking in the classic industries catalog they list the same part number for the carbed and fi tanks.

Well to answer the original question of if there are any differences the answer I got from SPI is yes. FI tanks have a plastic pan in the tank so the fuel pump is always submerged in gas.
This goes for the replacement tanks, not the OE tanks..but I'm sure they are all on the same idea...

If your worried about using a FI tank with a carbed motor, use an electric pump with a regulator. If you are worried about using a carb tank with a FI setup, holley has a 255gph (i think it's that big) mechanical pump that you can use.

I have a FI tank from a V6 with a 192GPH ford fuel pump feeding a mallory regulator for my carb.
