IS THIS A GOOD ENGINE?
IS THIS A GOOD ENGINE?
I'm a relative novice when it comes to engines and I was hoping you guys could help me out. I recently purchased an '87 Formula in which the previous owner pulled the stock 305 and put in a 350. I finally found all the engine casting numbers and codes and was hoping you guys could tell me if this is a good engine to build up. The engine block casting # is 14093638. The engine suffix code is V0204TPA. The head casting # is 14102193, and I also found this code on the back of the block by the drivers side, GM 5.7LG SGI. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I'll leave the quality question to somebody that knows but you can try the following thread for a basic description of the block and heads.

Sounds like a 350 TBI long block...
A block is just a block, within certain limits. That one is probably not a roller block
but might be a 4-bolt-main one
On the other hand, those are among the worst 350 heads there are, and I doubt the cam is a very strong runner unless the previous owner upgraded it.
