More than likely it's leaking at the seal around the pitman arm under the gear box. That seems to be the most common area, at least for me it has been.

thanks man,i didnt quite understand what you were saying with the power steering but only because i dont know where to go to get stuff like that and who to take it to to install it. Asfar as the leak i think i can handle that. Is it a gasket thats leaking? or is it just that some thing needs to be tightened up?

That is the gear box (from the top, don't mind the mess, test fitting the radiator in that picture). Under that, there is an arm attached on a splined shaft. Around that shaft there is a seal to keep fluid inside the steering box. That seal can go bad and leak fluid. If you go through THAT much fluid, I would have to agree, look for leaks in the steering box vicinity.

Get a can of good degreaser (I use the Cyclo brake and parts cleaner) and spray the crap out of your steering box, top and bottom (and around the pitman arm). Drive it around for a few miles, then get under the car and see if you can see any leaks. If you do, it's probably time for a rebuild, or, depending on which way you want to go, a new gear box (they aren't THAT hard to replace).

My power steering pump was leaking as well. I decided to just buy the pump and keep the old reservoir because the leak seemed to be coming from the pump. (pump pumps the power steering fluid into the steering box, the reservoir just holds the fluid, the deal you pour the fluid in) Allright.. 20-30 bucks for a pump seems like a good deal! WRONG! Unless you have the proper tools to put the pump into the back of the reservoir.. So anyway it still leaks because I bent the reservoir while trying to install the pump into it. The parts store does sell the pump and reservoir for 70 some dollars and its worth it because like you said, you probably paid more in fluid then what it cost to replace it. If the leak is on the pump or reservoir, just replace it. This is easily done with a couple ratches, sockets and torx bits. If the leak is somewhere else then my post is completly worthless and maybe you just need some teflon tape, jb weld, or a new line.
