Click sound

In my 83 crossfire T/A,I have this problem where the car is slower than mollasis when accelerating from a dead stop.I have to gradually press the accelerator to get going, because if I press to hard on it the car makes this click sound and the engine stalls for one second if that but the engine doesnt die.Its weird Car runs good though after getting up to 15 mph.
Could it be a bad injector or something Also, when I have the ignition in the position to turn the car on,you know ,the stand by position so to speak.Any ways, the fuel pump stays on,and I know thats not normal.

So far since I bought the car I have changed the spark plugs, oil and filter, air filters, radiator flush and thermostat, and fuel filter

Other stuff that doesnt work.......speedometor needs to be recalibrated, temp gauge doesnt work(if anyone can help out with this problem it would be greatly appreciated),and gas gauge doesnt work

thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

Richard

I took off the air cleaner and looked at the injectors as the car is on ,there both flowing in a cone like pattern, but not a strong flow.Ive never owned a fuel injected car so im just learning about this one so I dont know if its normal or not.Its not a weak flow though so I know thats a good sign.

I dont know where to start,The TBI's,injectors,02 sensor, cat converter maybe the problem also

Would weak fuel pressure cause a fuel pump to stay on when the key is in the position right before the car i gonna turn on.If its a relay or a fuse where would those be.My haynes manual says nothing on that.

So basicly my main problem is I dont know why my car is slower than mollassis and I have all these possible problems that might lead to my car being slow and dont know where to start.

Check the timing?

Sounds like detonation.

check the timing. Also pull the spark plugs and see what they look like (maybe running lean). This is where I would start.

The TBI has the fuell pressure regulator in it. The regulator has a return line in it so the pump will alway run. If the fuel is not needed it is returning to the tank.

Ive already installed new spark plugs...car runs better but still get that click noise when I gun it.So when those regulators go bad it keeps the fuel pump to stay on.Do i need to get new ones.

No, the pump always runs. When there is no demand for fuel then it returns the extra to the tank.

Still check the plugs, they can tip you off to a lean condition that can cause detonation, ping. Check the timing as well.

If timing and plugs check out then you may have a toasted head gasket.

I am still convinced that you have detonation. Check the above suggested things and go from there.
