Newbie Q - Removing the rotor

I have the cap off and i can't figure how to remove the rotor. Do you just pull it off? I don't really want to break anything. Haynes said it was held in by 2 screws but it also said the cap was secured by latches. I have a 350TPI. Thanks

The cap should be held on by 2 screws, but the rotor is just a press fit. That means you just pull it off...it may take a bit of yanking they can be tight.

Some caps are held in place by 4 screws and some others are held by 4 screw type latches,as far as the rotor goes, once the cap is off,the rotor should be held in place by 2 screws.Un-do the screws and the rotor should come right off.Its the person experiences i have had on 3 Trans Ams.

theres no screws on your 89 on your rotor. I have the same car. Just get a set of vise grips and rip it off. My old one broke into 3 pieces trying to get if off.

Just to put it in one post in case someone is confused by this post, there are 2 cap/rotor styles used in thirdgens.

The coil in cap cars (carbed and early TPI) have 4 latches around the cap, and the rotor has 2 screws holding it down.

The external coil cars have 2 screws holding the cap down, and the rotor just presses on, no fasteners. Sometimes these can be sticky, but they do just pull straight off if you try hard enough.

- Definitely prototypes, high powered mutants of some kind. Too weird to live, too cool to die

use the "nail puller" side of a hammer to hook under the rotor and just work it off/pull as needed. It really works like a charm.
