Head/cam change = performance increase

I think TrickFlow 23degree heads are crap...

I swapped my trickflow 23 degree/comp cams 270HR cam combo for a zz4 heads/zz4 cam combo and the thing runs 10 times better and makes more power both at part and full throtle. The ZZ4 cam is smaller then the 270HR I had before yet it makes good power.

Just wanted to post this to let everyone know that TF 23degree heads arent all their cracked up to be... not out of the box anyway.

ZZ4 heads, ZZ4 cam, Harland Sharp roller rockers, Accel base, SLP siamesed runners, 52MM SLP Throttle Body, Hooker Headers, Flowmaster catback, MSD6A ignition, Home made ramair system, 2500 stall, bullet proof 700R4, aluminum driveshaft...

Soon to be installed. WC T5 !

Who made the custom chip for your previous set up?

Whoa, saying that TF heads suck because they didn't work for you is pretty far off base! How do you know your cam wasn't too big for your setup? Are you 100% positive that if you stuck that ZZ4 cam into your engine while still using the TF heads, that it would have still been slower than with the ZZ4 heads?

the Comp270 is really not designed for ecm combinations but when combined with the TFS23 195 heads and proper tuning, I would think it would have better performance than the ZZ3 combination.

Cams may have made a difference, but you took a bigass step backwards going to the Al L98 heads. The TFS heads flow a pretty massive amount better...

The 270 isn't particularly big, but maybe something with the computer was having a fit (218/224 right?) The ZZ4 has like 208/220 dur @.050 I think, no? The ZZ4 would be alot more computer friendly. I'm betting that's the reason for any performance differences between the two setups. What was your compression with the TFS's 64 cc chambers? The ZZ4 heads 58 cc chambers would have pumped your compression up alot, if it was too low before you're probably just right now...

The Trick Flow 23* heads outflow the Al L98s by a large margin, no room for argument there... Just about had to be tuning issues that was holding the combo back.

id have to agree, you just made a huge step backwards putting on the vette d-port heads. the trick flows have better flow numbers out of the box than the aluminum L98 heads have. your cam was probably causing the problem

edit

The 270hr is like 215 duration at 050" with .500 lift on a 110lsa.
