What's causing an rpm drop every few seconds

Well, the 305 LG4 w/700r4 is cruising at 45ish mph, light throttle, and, as I try to maintain speed, it loses a few (2) hundred rpm every 3 or 4 seconds, and lasts for about a second, and repeats continuously, and yes it loses the power of those rpm too. I want to know where to look first. On a wild guess, I'd say the lockup torque converter is engaging and disengaging, combined with some carb problem causing loss of vacuum or something to make it lose power and disengage. Or could it be some internal carb leaking spurts of fuel, or losing fuel flow.
Any ideas??
BTW, it has only been driven a couple of times a month lately. Can this do anything? Also likes to bog a little when goosed (small goose even) at lower rpms. Don't know exactly what's up there, prolly just needs a carb rebuild, or a rebuilt 400 eh!

Thanks
Jeremy

this happened to me last spring, I waited like three weeks to fix it, and by then the tach was bouncing all over, turns out the spark plug wires (one or two) were fried and the plugs were old. sounds like you have a bad plug, even if the plugs are still good you really don't lose anything by replacing them.

hmmm, doubt it's the plugs, they're only a few months old, but the wires it could be. Come to think of it, I think something similar happened years ago, and it was a wire. This time though, the power drop is not as severe, but that could just be because I'm not on highways like before.
I'll check it out.
Thanks

I would suspect the TC lockup. If it were a wire then you would have the same problem at idle as well.
