IGNITION TIMING
I have a 92 RS TBI and recently installed a Crane CompuCam 2031 rollercam. I installed it straight up since I didn't have a degree wheel. While adjusting the timing I noticed that the car drives best at around 10-12 deg BTDC with the EST disconnected. Does that sound right considering that the factory timing was at 0 deg with the EST disconnected? The car doesn't backfire or anything. If I bring it lower than 10 deg w/disconnected EST then the car hesitates at lower RPMs. Do I have to degree in the cam? Any help will be appreciated

degreeing the cam is not directly assocated with timing advance. It is valve timing not ignition timing. The former is the relation ship between the valves and the pistons as they go through the 4 cycles. The latter is the relationship between the time the spark is triggered and the location of the piston as it goes through the 4 cycles.
If you can pass emission with that much timing i say keep it there.

The car runs fine but doesn't that sound like to much timing? When I plug the EST back in then the timing jumps to about 20-22 deg. I wonder if the markings on the Fluidampr are wrong.

Its a lot of initial. but it depends on what the ecm is doing as to how much total your getting. All aftermarket cams like a little more inital advance. 10+ degrees is a little more than I would think, but rarely are fluid dampers the fault.

Well the car seems to like the timing so I guess if it ain't broke I won't try to fix it which is contrary to what us Gear-Heads like to do anyways "IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T TRY TO FIX IT. JUST MAKE IT BETTER!" Thanks for the input.
