Starts, then stalls... New engine...
Ok i replaced my bad intake gasket the other day. And today i get to actually starting and retiming and stuff.
but i find out that the engine will get to idle rpm, then accelerate like 1k rpm, and then completely stall.
It does this everytime, no fail. So i decided, maybe my IAC is malfunctioning, i disconnected it, and no help. SO i connect it again and then disconnect my TPS. All the sudden the engine idles right at where it used to.
Heres the current condition of the car. 350 tpi, 86 maf system, 86 memcal still, maf disconnected, o2 sensor disconnected, cold start switch disconnected, removed EGR(with blockoff plate), removed air, and removed PCV.
Why would it have run before, i replaced the intake gasket, but not after? Can the TPS just go bad like that? Or is there a wire connector besides the one on the intake that helps it out?

well, at this point, if the intake didn't seal, it wouldn't matter Because it runs without the tps.
If the intake didn't seal, it would matter if i had the maf running. B ecause it metered the air coming in, and if it came in another way it still wouldn't matter. the engine is only getting so much fuel, it will run however.
my TPS may have gone bad, i dont know. But i'll be getting my voltage meter out to test it.
Without the TPs, the engine runs, will rev to 5k, yet it has no throttle responce, which is to be expected with an engine without the tps. It now has to rely on rpm to match fuel.
I'll see about this stuff later.

Definitely test the TPS. Adjustable or nonadjustable?
I was thinking along the lines of 84z, until I read that it ran fine without the TPS. I would GUESS that the TPS is bad.....and giving the computer bogus signals, which is causing it to flinch the IAC valve, which is giving you your rev and stall.

OK dokie, awesome. Today i will be workin on the car. My first day off in a while. Like sunday i think.
But i will be testing TPS.
Thw weird this is that i disconnected the IAC instead of the TPS and the same problem happened.
SO even if the engine tell the iac to actuate it wouldn't move. I thin even if the TPS had the wrong signal, what is happeneing is the engine thinks i'm reving, giving more fuel, and the throttle blades are still shut, not giving any air and therefor stalling.
Timing is at 6* BTDC.
Today i will try to connect my MAf back up, and maybe do the 02 sensor. But the 02 sensor is like 6 years old. Yeah i now, very old one, but it seemed clean via visual inspeaction. But when i connected it before, it was like running so lean, it seemed to me my passenger side header turned red. So i hurried and disconnected it.
I also need to connect the MAF sensor that would help the ECM a whole bunch.

Connect everything back up and trouble shoot one thing at a time. Clear any codes after you hook everything back up. Start first with the TPS and watch for codes. If you get any pull them and it will help quite a bit.
Don't worry about the O2 just yet. It only has an effect when the engine is in closed loop ie warmed up.
