13 second L69?
I would like to know if this is possible with the following set up. I have the following and will be adding the rest.
L69 engine. 5 speed tranny. 3.73 posi.
Jacob's Prostreet Ignition system. Weiand Action Plus intake, Edelbrock 1406 carb, Comp Cams XE2-262H-10 cam, Roller tip rockers, springs of course, No emissions, no computer stuff.
Will be adding over the coming winter:
L98 aluminum heads (should keep my compression about 9.5:1), 1 5/8" headers, removing the cat, low resistance muffler, NX Nitrous system (75 to 100 hp shot), Jacobs Nistrous mastermind system (think that's the name of it).
So I'd like to reach the mid 13's...is this a possibility with that formula?
If not, what changes would need to be made?
Oh yeah, I love this car so much I drive it everyday, so it will have to be friendly.
I think there is a lot of life left in my L69. It only has about 80,000 original miles on it, and runs very strong.
When it does die on me, I'd like to re-use many of the "bolt on" parts on the engine I replace it with.
And hey, depending on what I get out of this engine, when it does die on me, I may just rebuild it.

I would crank up the compression higher than 9.5:1..... an aluminum head will resist detonation better than a cast iron head so higher compression can be had without having to run high octane fuel.... Aluminum heads also will actually need higher compression to work correctly due to their quicker heat dissipation which inhibits full burning of the mixture...
10 to 10.5 :1 would be fine on your engine and yield much better power, IMO.....

i think that you got a 13 second plan going, my buddy had a fairly stock 84 ho and he had 14.5s with the open 3.73s. after all that stuff, I'd make sure that you got traction galore, heck drop some weight and you got it easy.

305 tbi flat base 14"x3" with K&N, hypertech chip, accel super stock plug wires, only use full synthetic oil and delco filter, 2 1/2" cat delete pipe, Edelbrock 3" cat-back
MTX sub and amp, Bose all around

street kills: New v-6 stang, 96 v6 camaro, totally killed '86 SC Camaro (305), 91 z 28 with 305
15.854@87.57 (I think I could have it 15.5 with good tires and two more runs)
next month: rest of ultimate tbi

Aside from myself, I have spoken to many people running the L98 aluminum heads on the L69 block. With headers, no cat, good mufflers, ported & polished L98 'vette heads, aftermarket intake manifold, about 220 degree intake duration and .450 lift with 112 degree (or less) lobe seperation cam, fresh carb, and roller rockers you should be low 13s to high 12s, depending on whether you can get it to the ground or not. You can bump compression up about 1/2 point to about 10:1 by using a thinner head gasket. Anything more than that on compression would require milling the heads or changing the pistons, which I don't think that's what you want right now. Nitrous oxide should push you well into the high 12s (if you can get the power to the pavement and control it). Nitrous is risky to use due to the excess fatigue it puts on your pistons, heads, and valves so be conservative with it until you rebuild for it with forged pistons, better rods, and less wear.

With your proposed engine combination, good
traction, and good driving, your car should go mid-13's without the NOS.

Well I'm pretty sure that is the engine combo I am going to use....the only thing I am undecided on is the nitrous.
I am working on a website when I get the time. I will track my progress with each step on the home page. You're welcome to see how it goes. There is a track about 60 miles north of me where I will take my car. It is open this weekend, but have my oldest daughters B-Day party, so I can't go.
