Computer Codes

Coincidence? I had just spray-cleaned the left valve cover, then hosed it off, so perhaps it is my fault.

The computer, [after I wiped the old codes], is throwing an intermittent code for [TPS- #21]. Is the computer to be trusted?

I have never dealt with the computer or dis-assembly of the carb.

What do I need to get for the job? Sensor and what carb parts?
And how much luck?

Thanks,

Seth

So?
Is there a general botcott against me?
Some of us do have to pass N.Y.S. emission this October, you know.
So, I am asking for help, again.
Please share your wisdom on the subject.

P.S.: Resistance from 1 to 3 was over limits, until I bumped idle from 500 to 600 rpm. But code still says 21; light is still lit.

Boycott? I doubt it. Posting on the Carburetor Board may have generated a faster response, or maybe not. There are a lot of threads with a lot of questions. People that might be able to offer direction might not always be available (it's football season).

The TPS is "buried" in the carburetor, under the air horn.

An error code "21' usually means that the TPS is calculated to be too high for a given engine RPM. Since you just washed off the engine, I'd advise that you make sure the carburetor (particularly around the TPS), the TPS electrical connector, and rest of the wire harness is dry.

You should also test the TPS voltage at idle to make sure it is within the 0.48V-0.60V range. The closer to 0.48V, the better. If the throttle stop screw (curb idle adjustment) has been altered, that can affect the TPS voltage.

Yes, we are all out to make sure you fail emissions

If you havent already done so i would give it time to dry up and retest.

Relax, just because you post doesn't mean someone has to/ can answer.

GM TPSs seem to have a tendancy to seriously dislike getting wet.
