valve spring identification
valve spring identification
I bought a 350 that has a xe268 cam in it and want to make sure the valve springs are ok to run with it. There are two different springs in it, some have a green stripe on them and the others have a pink stripe.
I did a search both here and on google and didn't come up with any solid answers. Anybody know?

Do you know what they are? The motor was ran with these springs and cam so i'd like to assume that they are fine for the lift but don't want to be sorry for it later. I know i can get springs fairly cheap but if i dont have to then thats just one less thing i need to do.
no and if you want to guess that they're fine run them. if you want to know you have a quality set of springs look up the specs for your cam and buy a set of lunati, comp, or crane springs. stay away from GMPP and k motion.

well I agree you should get new ones, as you don't know what those are, but for $150 or so?
I'm guessing you haven't build a lot of hot engines before? you don't have a mess of engine building type tools?
the answer you're looking for then is: you need to measure the height of them off the car, OD, ID, and length. also measure the spring pressure on the seat and at whatever lift, etc etc... you probably can't do this at home, so you could just bring the springs to your favorite machine shop and tell them what you posted in your first thread and see if they can check a few springs for you. They *might* be the right specs for you, (or at least one of the pairs...) and might still be ok to use. but your machine shop/ engine builder could tell you this.
