gears?

i was browsing through the tech articles and came apon the engine/hp/torque list deal. can't seem to figure out if i have 3.42 or 3.73. i've got an automatic tranny, and it says Auto Opt (G92). i didnt think the G92 was an engine b/c there was no G92 posted as an engine in that block. the guy who owned the car before me said he was quite sure it had 3.73s in the back, and im just trying to confirm. can anybody tell me? also, i thought i had an LG4, but i guess i've got an L69. is that gangsta?

also, i need to race my friends trans am again. he's got an 85 w/ 305 tpi and no muffler. i've got the 305HO w/ K&N, flowmassa 80, and maybe 3.73. his year came out w/ more power than mine, but can i beat him now? i probly coulda held up better with him had i shifted through the gears like he did (we've both got auto trannys) and just stomped on the gas. it was my first time racing and i was more worried about traction for a good launch. bad mistake.

As far as I know G92 was a car package w/ a few mods (not many ..like fuel tank/drive line/ and something else I dont rember..I have a mag. with an article on it)

I'm pretty shure all G92's came with 3.42's

but I thought that the "G92" *car package* was offered in 91-92 z28 only ..could be wrong seeing how you have a 84 Z ...

Yeah, I've never heard of G92 in the 80s but I could be wrong. An easy way to check your gears is drive at 70 mph and stay in D not OD. Assuming you have stock tire sizes with 3:42s you'll be turning 3420 rpms.

If you have a L69 car, odds are pretty good that it has 3.73s.

What is the eighth digit of your car's VIN? That tells with absoute certainty what engine it came with. Badges don't mean a thing; as we all know from looking at the Hondas, stickers are cheaper than parts, and there's plenty of HO badges in the boneyards.

I don't know anything about the L69 being "gangsta". I hope not. I've had mine for a very long time without the slightest hint of that crap, but I will get rid of it if it turns out that it suddenly is. I have no use for any of that.

due to it being an L69 i'd also bet on it being a 3.73. as for it being gangsta, that can be fixed by removing the 60 air freshners and wire spoke wheels. and what's is a flowmassa? that must be a flowmaster with tips that are actually larger than the exhaust in front of them as to say hey, i'm a poser.

anybody have any head/cam suggestions for my new-found L69? i'm thinking i'm just gonna upgrade my 305 b/c i can get a good bit of power out of it and it will still handle as a daily driver. i'm kinda interested in Vortec, W/P Sportsman II or Torquer heads; Comp cams. any suggestions?
