Small block Ford in a third gen??
Ok here's the deal. I know this might sound sacraligious

But I want to know what's involved with putting a SBF in my camaro. I've seen it done the other way around (SBC in a mustang), But right now I'm rebuilding my 5.0 in the form of a 347 stroker, forged internals, alum. trick flow heads, nice cam (.574" lift and that's all I'll tell) plus a nice breathing intake and TB etc...
My buddy "Wild Bill" devine estimates 440+HP at the crank when it's finished. Plus it will be balanced to withen .5gm, all the usual stuff align honed and bored, decked etc... Besides motor mounts (where can I get them??) Anything else I'll need? It's backed by an upgraded t-5. What size driveshaft, that kinda thing.

after you get the engine and trans set in pull a tape and you ought to be able to figure out the DS length by the way the numbers are arranged on the tape. why would anyone with half a brain want to go to the time and expense of doing this?

maybe i should of expanded a bit more on what i said? do what you like but unless you get satisfaction from doing more to get less there are better ways to get 440+ HP at the crank

I have to agree, theres not much point in doing this. SBC parts are generally cheaper then SBF's, and why stroke a 302 when you can stroke a 350? Just about any junkyard will sell you a core 350 for ~$150 if you're in need of a block. I'm sure the swap would end up costing alot more then that. Also, ford blocks are inferior to chevy blocks in that they don't have nearly as much meat on them as they should, unless of course you use a ford racing block.

Why would you want to go and do something like that?
If you do i would reccomend the sledge hammer route and while your at it remove all GM and camaro badges from the car and throw a match in the gas tank

Is this going to to be MPFI or are you going to just pop a carb on it? Either way it's alot easyer to put a SBC into a fNord then vise versa. You can use the upper most part of the fNord engine mount and weld it to a GM clam shell. Dont know what one would do about the trans.

I've seen conversion kits to mount a th350 to a sbf, but why? I mean I like ford's. Friend has a mustang I love that car. I love my firebird, I love all fast cars minus the *** cans. But I believe it's in the bible, let fords have ford motors and GM have GM motors

The mustang body is beat. The camaro is flawless.
That's why.
The car is about to break into the 12's, and with the new motor in it low 11's are going to be the norm. Always liked the looks of the third gen camaro more. IMO the mustang is the superior car for drag racing.
It just dosn't look as "pretty".
I just was asking a hypothetical question. I actually like the response form people when I beat them in a car that looks like it has 80hp max.

I agree, generally mustangs do better in a 1/4 while F bodies have a better top end. I'm not saying an f body can't do a good 1/4 mile but the fox bodies tend to be lighter and that 5.0 is a good motor. When I was building my mustang. I used to get in arguments with people who'd always **** on f bodies. Its all how you define fast. Fast can be a good 1/4 mile time or fast can be a stock 4th Gen that hits nearly 165

Have you considered buying a 4 banger mustang and doing a drivetrain swap? You have all the parts after all, and i personally like the looks of the 87-93 mustangs, especially in hatchback trim and with gt or saleen ground effects.
This is how i think of it, mopar blocks belong in mopars, ford blocks belong in fords, and gm blocks go wherever you damn well please.

I'd have to agree, by the time that you cut, reweld, change just about everything. You could have bought you a better mustang with maybe a 4 cylinder and built a 320 HP 350 for the camaro(Hot Rod built put some stock 193s and a XE-268 into/onto a mid 70s Impala 350 and made 320 HP for $460.00 a few years ago, including the cost of the wrecking yard engine. I believe they re-ringed it and ran with it.(99 IIRC). Then they turned around and for less than $1K they made it into a 375 HP powerhouse. The previous two were with dual plane intakes and a stock Q-Jet. Then they put a holley and a single plane on it and made 400 HP.

Mustangs are lighter, that's why they make good 1/4 mile cars and a 302 based engine will be slower in a camaro. You'll still make good numbers and have a fast ride, like some of the stroked 305's out there.
I think it would even be possible to use a stock driveshaft if the output splines are the same. So long as you mount the transmission first, then do the motor mounts. The 4thgen fbodys used a ford T5 and I've read of people using the ford T5 for chevy applications so I know there is at least a good chance that you won't have to have a driveshaft made. If not call up Denny's DS or cut and weld your own like the circle track guys do around here. Headers would probably be more of a concern than D.S. anythings possible with a grinder and a welder.

I have a fox cougar in my back yard I thought of putting a stroked 305 in but instead I just bought a my 86 Trans am to drop the 305 in instead of trying to jam it into the cougar and I am sure I save a s#$* load of money, time and a few headaches in doing so. I would just buy a lx 'stang and go from there
