Hedgasket Question
if you blow a headgasket and you get water in the oil should you tear down the whole engine or can you flush it out.
The engine has 70k on it.

It can be flushed out, but whether that's the right thing to do depends on how long it's been in there. It requires a special flush substance that is specifically made to dissolve the result of mixing oil & AF.
So what's the real situation?

Depends, is this just a daily driver sorta car or are you gonna beat on it? I had one car that was making milkshakes constantly (till I had the block decked) and I never bothered to tear it down. I sold that car, but its been driven over 40k miles so far with no problems. I have a bearing that saw coolant for maybe a couple miles and for sure was cleaned out, and it has some rather nice pitting in it from the milkshake mix, although I dont think it was hurting anything.

Well, with all of the stress put on the engine in most TTAs, I am recommending a full tear down and rebuild. I guess you can flush it out and see if it works out in the end, but I just wouldn't take the chance if I were you on a TTA... If the bearings have been damaged by the coolant in the oil already, it will mean big problems later if you just flush it and let her buck.... Better off just doing it right the first time.
