Oil leak at rear of engine block.

I have had the problem ever since I had to reinstall my old 305 TPI T-5. Oil is leaking out the back of the engine. It comes up to about 1/2 quart per 250-300 miles of driving. The oil is dripping between the engine block and belhousing.

I started out by running thicker oil. Problem persisted. I then decided to put in a new rear main seal (86+ 1 pc.). Problem persisted. I decided to put in a new oil pan gasket, problem still persisted. All gaskets on the engine are Fel-Pro too.

The only thing I can think of now is if I got the 350 and 305 rear main seals confused at one time or I got the part that houses the rear main seals confused. So maybe the 350's is on the 305's? I however thought that the parts should be the same size and pt. number. Right? The only other thing I could think of was maybe I did not get the correct torque when torqueing down the rear main seal bolts.

If you checked all the other seals, it could be the china wall, hell even the distributor seal.

How was the china wall sealed? Was the gasket used?

Gasket was not used, I use permatex silicon, orange color. I will check there, had not thought of that.

check your oil pressure sending unit/pressure switch, the little bell looking thing by your dizzy on the drivers side.i had a nasty oil leak for about a year until i checked that.the seal around the "bell" sometimes have a tendency to leak.just reach through and feel the bottom of it to see if that could be your problem.

I went and checked the china wall, that is it. I was so caught up in thinking it was at the back bottom of the engine I did not even think about the top back. Thank you ME Leigh, you saved me yet another tranny pull. I will be pulling the intake this weekend then. Do you recomend staying with the permatex orange or using the seal/gasket for the china wall?

Thanks again.

Stick with Permatex. I like the copper(not sure if that is what you are refering to). Hose a fat bead across and get the corner good. Let it skin up and you should be good to go.
