Rear Main Seal replacement in a 2-piece block
I've begun my 700R4 to T5 swap, and I've got to replace the rear main seal. 10k miles on the motor and it leaks like a screen door. Does the engine have to come right out of the car or can I get away with lifting it up a few inches? I want a 1-piece rubber oil pan gasket (that fugger leaks too), but I've heard that it makes the oil pan sit a little lower. I've got a cast aluminum pan, and as it is the fins already hit my exhaust.
Anyway, what am I in for on this project?

With the 700r4 out you shouldn't have too hard of a time replacing the rear main seal.
Someone did a tech article on the replacement of the oil pan gasket. I haven't read it, but I would think that with the tranny out it would simply be a matter of jacking up the rear of the block and sliding the pan in.
Good luck with the seal swaps man.

I read Phil Parsins' article, and the motor needs to be lifted up a few inches. If I'm going to go through that hassle, I might as well just pull the bastard out and do it on a stand. 10k miles on the motor and I've already got to pull it.
