Lo3 rebuild... How much??
Lo3 rebuild... How much??
My engine has 106k on it. For some reason it still runs rather strong. Still throws you in the seat a lil. lol. How much are we talkin for a rebuild. Then after the rebuild is it totally safe to start modding the car? I also wanna know how many more ponies will a TPI give me? Is it worth putting on. Or just keep the TBI and work from there. thanks guy

Does it need a rebuild? Or do you want to mod the engine?
If you do, or have a shop do, a leak down test, or a compression check, then that'll tell you if you need a rebuild.
I have 175K miles on mine. I had a shop do a leak down test on it. They said it is loosing a little pressure around the exhaust valves, which is typical. Other than that, they said it's fine.
About the only other thing you'd have to worry about is the bearing clearances, but you can't just "check" that.
If your gonna do some ordinary mods, then you should be OK. If you get into more serious stuff, then it wouldn't hurt to tear the motor down and check all the clearances. That way all your money won't go straight out the exhaust pipe.
Or up through the hood.

If it still runs strong, then you don't need a rebuild and you can mod it as it is. Now of course it would be easier to change cams with the motor out and do headwork.

Unless you are really bad on doing oil changes it has another 100k miles in it easy. If you want to swap it out, a L05 is $1500 from www.sdpc2000.com
