2.5 Iron Duke

I know this is the forgotten engine, and I cant seem to find a better place to post it. If there is one, moderate move please thx

Anyways, I'm still a thirdgen loyalist, will always be, hope to get another one. BUT I just scored a fiero, and the engine in it sucks. I'll be puttin a 350 TPI in it, but for the time being I wanna rebuild the engine. Anyone know where I can get a kit for it? I searched on summit n stuff and they deffinatly didnt have one lol. I know this isnt 3rd gen related but its the exact same engine that was in my first 85 camaro, so its related

Rebuild kits and individual rebuild parts for the 151 can be found at any good parts store.

I had three Fieros before I got out of the game. I wish I still had a good one, but it wasn't practical for hauling around two little Jedi. With an overdrive (instead of the Getrag) it would be nice for fuel mileage right about now.

Pennock's Fiero Forum is a reasonably good place to find some help, but it's certainly no TGO. I don't think there's another place quite like this anywhere.

If you get hot/heavy into the rebuild, there are a few easy things to do to empower the little engine. Clean out the swirl from the intake ports, and match/blend the intake manifold runners and ports:

An AFPR and balanced rotating assembly will keep the engine together longer and more reliably at the higher RPM they seem to need. Consider a new Comp cam and appropriate springs and rockers. The factory cam is very mild, and there is a lot more power in the 151 than most are producing. Don't even think about boost or Nitrous on that engine without some serious new parts.

That applies to 151s in ThirdGens and P-cars.

I really duno what I'll do with the 4 cylinder. It's mostly disconnected and ready to pull out because the owner was about to get it done but his mechanic got in a car accident and is out for several months. I duno if I wanna hook stuff back together and throw fluids in it long enough to see whast wrong, all he said was "engine noise" so I have no idea if its a knock or something valve train. I can fix it either way, but I dont wanna go too much into fixing the 4 cylinder. Pretty much the same time I get the car, I'm getting a TPI 350 to Jam in it out of an 89 IROC, and I still have my truck so I can do the swap as soon as I get the money for the parts to do it. That'll be sweeet

Thanks for responding,
I am in need of the front and back alternator brackets, mine still hold the alternator fine, but the back is missing and the front is sorta broken, let me know.

Sounds good,
I don't know if this makes a difference, but I don't have AC.

the duke CAN be built up to 200hp NA.

all you need is the crank ,rods, and pistons from a mecruiser standerd rotaion 3.0 181 l4.

the crank must be machined to fit a car fly wheel, and you will need to shave .033 from the pistons to get the correct deck heigth. [im double checking those numbers]

then get the wildest cam you can find, port the heads, get a two barrel carb,or get a chip burnt for it to run the stock tbi,and some ignition upgrade parts for it,and get manual steering and an electric water pump and rad fan.

then you should have at least 175hp after that, probably more.

if you really want to build a duke, try this website-

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/...ketech4garage/

tons of info on parts and pics of some huge dukes.

check out the pic of the stock crank vs the 3.0 marine crank

Ya know, I was reading on the fiero sites that everyone says the Duke is a Lost Cause Econobox engine. But in my days on TGO I've read of people beefin the hell outta em. Cast Iron 4 cylinder, so why cant it support some really beasty stuff? Dinky little honda 4 cylinders can take some abuse and beefing up so the Duke should too. They were saying the valvetrain ect was too weak to handle more than like 130hp. That just didnt make any sense to me because I've heard of some pretty high nitrous numbers into a duke.

Here are a couple pics of a Turbo Duke:

yeah, the stock duke crank and rods are worthless, but after the 3.0 stroker upgrade it should handle 10psi with no problems.

i eventualy want to run a supercharger or a remote mounted turbo with 7-9psi.

it should have 250hp-275tq at 2500rpms and redline at 6500k.

but thats for sometime in the future.
