305 power questions...

I have been building a little toy Camaro LB9 305. So far I have
1. Removed the cat.
2. Added a torque converter lock up switch.
3. Currently making a dual snorkel aircleaner
4. Quality gas shocks.

It runs a 16.51 stock in the 1/4 mile. I want to be in the low to mid 14's with out breaking open the engine. Maybe a cam but thats as in depth as I want to go in the engine. Here is what I am thinking about adding.....
Power pullies, 1" carb spacer, mild cam, coil over traction bars, K&N air filter and xtream air top with a hood scoop, 4th gen posi rear end, B&M shift kit, removing smog stuff, reducing weight, and Dynomax duel exhausts.
Do you think I will make it to my goal? What else can I do with out spending alot of money at one time? (10 here, 15 there). I will be posting pictures of my car soon!

Thanks you guys, see ya

First of all skip the B&M shift kit, it's junk. Ask transfixleo on the tranny board about what he recommends it's a Transgo Reprogramming Kit. Getting a cam and exhaust would be a waste without headers. If you can afford them SLP would be the best, but if you're just looking for 14's Edelbrock TES headers will do, just get them coated. And you made a good point of getting a hood scoop, because that air lid probably won't do much without it. One question that LB9 is that a TPI motor or carb. If it is TPI I would definately think you should be running better than 16's. Also make sure you car has a recent tune up.

You've really got to tune your car up or find out whats wrong, an 85 tpi auto should run 15.2-15.4 stock.

If you are running a Qjet, go to the Tech Article section and implement the tips on the Qjet tuning article and the HEI distributor tune up. That alone will probably get you down another half second.

No kidding!

I'm just gonna assume you have a HO carb engine LG4 or whatever it is. Headers are the biggie here GET HEADERS, get the thing running right, check timing etc. should be high 15s or quicker stock if it's a carb engine. If you only want mid 14s, you should be able to do it w/o touching the long block,

1) Tune it up. K&N is included in a tune up.
2) Headers (3" y-pipe) and some sort of better exahust be it a weld on muffler, cat-back/high flow cat or straight annoying pipe.
3) New intake manifold (edelbrock performer(RPM) etc.
4) If it doesn't have posi or it's worn out Get posi(lsd) and better gears like 3.42
In my opinion you just need posi...b/c
5) something with the auto, (can't help you there, I shift my own gears)

That should be at least high 14s or better for ~$1000 (not including the Rearend).

Besides the rearend, those are all easy mods. A cam would really help too, but alot of work.

With exhaust, chip , and filter, I knocked off .8+ sec and gained 6 mph in the 1/4 mile with my car.
