one last air pump question
Since my air pump is making all sorts of noise, is it possible to just take the pulley off and reroute the belt as in the tech. article? Will doing this create any other problems? I didn't know if the pump would still be supported or cause any ses codes. thanks

should be no problem with the codes but I dont know if the pulley flange will interfere with the new routing. I dont think it would but if you do take the pulley off - why not just take the whole pump off.

Read this:

You will likely need to remove the entire A.I.R pump if you want to reroute the belt as described in the tech article to ensure the belt doesn't hit anything during operation.

Thanks, I am going to take the whole pump off as soon as I can. But I don't have a garage and it's getting kinda cold here to be working on the car for long stretches. I just want to stop the noise till I can get the pump off. thanks for the help.

mine was doing the same thing.. too much noise.. I tried pulling just the pulley off, but the pump was still in the way of the belt routing.. you have to pull the whole pump off.. it's not too hard, just a couple torx screws.. took me less than an hour once I knew what I was doing.

) after I took the A.I.R (smog pump and related componants) system off of it, while it still had a cat..... I never tried it after I gutted the cat and had the A.I.R system off of that T/A.... I 'relocated' my home address outside the city limits after that 'mod'.....hehe
